Bite-Sized Science: Studying Tornado Damage With UAS

Researchers at NOAA NSSL are using UAS to study storm damage in rural areas. The multispectral camera on the UAS provides imagery that shows damage to vegetation. The goal is to improve the accuracy of the NOAA Storm Event Database, which is referenced by the NOAA National Weather Service to predict future tornado outbreaks.
NSSL's Bite-Sized Science video series focuses on specific activities and projects from the NOAA Weather Partners in Norman, OK. With it's brief duration and focus on reaching a wide-audience, the Bite-Sized Science videos have been a useful tool for introducing complex scientific technology and projects to everyone from elementary school children to congressional staffers.

The video was produced by James Murnan, NOAA NSSL's in-house videographer and photographer.
